NCE Elementary

The Needham Community Education NCE Elementary program offers a wide array of after school classes at each elementary school, evening classes and single-day workshops are available too. Classes are offered at each elementary school at the end of the school day. Students may take classes at any school (NCE does not provide transportation).

Fall 2019-Coming Soon! Our Sneak Peek* of NCE Elementary FALL after school enrichment classes will be available online Wednesday, September 4th. A catalog of class offerings will be available online Friday, September 13th. *Please note Sneak Peek classes and dates are subject to change. Please be sure to double-check all class details and dates before registering. Classes will begin the week of October 14th and will run for 7 to 8 weeks in duration. There will be classes that appeal to every child, including: STEM topics, coding, science, sports and fitness, art, acting, drawing, chess and more! Classes will be offered on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Due to the volume of early release days, NCE will not offer multi-session classes on Wednesdays. Stay tuned for more information regarding single-day, 90 minute workshops to be offered on some of the full-day Wednesdays throughout the year. Afternoon classes begin at the end of the school day. Students are dismissed to the designated NCE waiting area of their school where they are supervised by the NCE On-Site Coordinator until the NCE instructor arrives to escort the students to their classroom. (As a reminder: parents/guardians of students registered for NCE classes need to notify their classroom teachers and NEDP instructors that their child will be attending an NCE class after school.)

REGISTRATIONS will be taken online*, beginning at 7:00am on Tuesday September 17th. Registration instructions and details will be released with the Fall NCE Elementary catalog. For students in NEDP: Students enrolled in NEDP may also register for NCE Elementary programs. They will be escorted back to NEDP at the end of their class.

 (As a reminder: Please provide NEDP with a Dismissal Change Form to notify NEDP that your child will be attending their NCE class and returning to NEDP upon its conclusion.)

For students with special needs: NCE Elementary classes are open to all, and every effort will be made to accommodate students with special needs. Please contact Carolyn Colonna, NCE Program Director, ( if you would like guidance as to which programs may be the best fit for your child.

Scholarship assistance is available: Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch may take one class per session with NCE at a reduced price. *Scholarship registrations cannot be taken online. Please contact Jill Ash, Registration Manager, for assistance: or 781-455-0400 x11235.

Registration policies: There are no refunds for withdrawals once a registration has been completed. There will be a $20 administrative fee assessed for all requested changes to original registrations. Classes may be cancelled by NCE due to low enrollment, so please register early. Classes cancelled by NCE will be refunded in full. Refunds will be made by check from the Town of Needham and may take up to three weeks.

Behavior policy: We expect our students to follow their teacher’s instructions and to treat each other and staff with respect. If your child does not meet these expectations we will communicate with you to discuss their behavior. If your child’s behavior does not improve, we will ask you to withdraw your child from the class and no refund will be given. If your child exhibits threatening behavior towards others in the class, they will be withdrawn immediately and no refund will be given.

Summer Explorations Program

Summer Explorations offers students entering grades 1–9 more than 90 weeklong, morning, afternoon and full-day enrichment classes in July. There are classes in science, sports, fine and performing arts, culture, cooking, crafts, technology, engineering and more to appeal to the inquisitive, active, and creative child. All classes are taught by Needham Public Schools teachers and other trained education professionals.
