Parent Teacher Council

Hello and welcome!

On behalf of the Needham Preschool Parent Teacher Council, we would like to thank you for considering the Needham Preschool for your child. One of the Needham Preschool's many advantages is its strong parent community, and we would like to introduce you to some of the ways in which parents are an integral part of your child's preschool experience.

What is the PTC and what is its mission?
The Needham Preschool PTC is a group of parents working together with the preschool staff to create the best preschool experience possible for our children. The PTC has three primary responsibilities:
  • To create a sense of community among preschool families.
  • To serve as a communication vehicle among parents and staff to discuss educational and school community matters.
  • To raise money for Creative Enrichment programs (special events and activities that complement and extend the core preschool curriculum) and classroom/teacher needs.

What are some things the PTC does?
The PTC plays an active role in the preschool by organizing and sponsoring enrichment and social programs for all children. As an example, some of the Creative Enrichment programs sponsored by the Needham Preschool PTC include:
  • Fire safety program taught by a Needham Firefighter
  • Rainforest Reptiles program - complete with live animals to touch!
  • New England Aquarium program with portable ocean touch tanks
  • Creative Movement Moving Melodies program
  • A visit by Lucy the READ dog
  • Acton Discovery Museum which included a dinosaur fossil dig!

In addition, the PTC organizes social events for the entire preschool community. Events include:
  • Back-to-School Popsicle Party
  • Parent Welcome Coffee on the first day of school
  • Parents Only Social
  • Family Playdates at an indoor playspace during the winter
  • Preschool Springfest event with children's entertainment provided by Knucklebones
  • End-of-Year Picnic
  • The PTC also provides direct support to classroom teachers and specialists by raising money for classroom equipment and supplies. The PTC has purchased an iPad 2, butterfly gardens, planting supplies, and an outdoor chalkboard for the preschool. We also host periodic staff appreciation breakfasts and an end-of-year staff appreciation lunch.

How can parents become involved in the PTC?
There are many ways to support the PTC, including serving on the PTC Board, joining a PTC committee, or being a Room Parent. Parents can also help out by attending monthly meetings, organizing and/or participating in an event, and making a financial contribution during one ofthe PTC's fundraisers.
While all preschool families are equal members of the PTC with full benefits and voting privileges, becoming active in the PTC is a great way to meet other families and help contribute to your child's social, emotional and academic learning.
This is an exciting time in your child's life, and we hope you will join the Needham Preschool community. We look forward to meeting you and working with you to enhance your child's preschool experience. If you have any questions about the Needham Preschool PTC, please contact us!

Warm regards,
Hillary Rubin
