T'ai Chi is a gentle physical exercise used to improve and maintain health. It consists of a series of slow movements or poses which flow into one another. People of all ages can perform this exercise. This exercise appears to have many positive effects on the body. It has been shown to reduce stress and blood pressure. The exercise may even temporarily boost the immune system.
My project focused on the effect T'ai Chi has on blood pressure. It has been proven that T'ai Chi has a long-term effect. My hypothesis was that the participants' blood pressures would go down after they had performed the exercise. Then I took the blood pressure of numerous people before and after they had performed T'ai Chi. I found that the peoples' blood pressures overall tended to go down. But, women's blood pressure always went down, whereas men's blood pressure stayed about the same. My hypothesis was, therefore, proven correct for women, but not for men.
