The Media and Digital Learning Department comprises the school library media teachers and the technology integration specialists. They support teaching and learning throughout the Needham Public Schools. The focus of The Media and Digital Learning Department is teaching and learning and it supports literacy, research, technology use, and digital resource adoption. The department works closely with the Information Technology Services department to work as a cohesive team.
Digital Learning
The Technology Integration Specialists are all licensed professional teachers. They guide and support teachers and students to effectively use the technology resources available to them. Through coaching, co-teaching, collaborative planning, and direct instruction, they lead and support the district’s technology integration initiatives. They promote effective use of technology and strengthen the capacity of educators by providing professional development in courses, workshops, and individual consultations. They stay current with the ever-changing field of technology in education in order to continue to help others advance innovative uses of technology in teaching and learning.
Library Media
The Library Media Program is staffed by professional Library Media Teachers at each school. They support all learners to develop literacy, literature, research, information, and technology skills. They promote and advance the use of print and digital resources to support, enhance, and extend classroom curriculum. In addition to teaching, Library Media Teachers manage the school libraries, including such tasks as scheduling space, maintaining the collection, selecting and purchasing materials, and managing volunteers. The result is library media centers that are hubs of activity and teaching and learning.
